The domestic abuse survivors support group is to create a safe space for anyone in need of support for domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can take many forms and can affect any demographic. Domestic abuse is commonly thought to be a violent situation between romantic partners. However, there are many other kinds of domestic abuse like religious/spiritual, financial and reactive that are lesser known and discussed. Abuse can also be in any type of close relationship, not just in romantic partnerships. We want to give a voice to both survivors of past abuse and survivors still experiencing abuse. We have created a safe hour, once a week for alternate daytime and evening support groups.

Our goal in group is to share, learn and grow from everyone’s past and/or present experiences. To show compassion, caring and support to our peers. To be able to be honest and share without fear of judgment. We want everyone to be seen and heard as equals. We are not alone, we are strong and knowledge is power.

Some topics could be:

  • What is abuse? Types of domestic abuse
  • The cycle of abuse
  • Gaslighting
  • Healthy relationships/boundaries
  • Building self worth
  • Attachment styles/love languages
  • Escape plan/aftercare
  • Survivor stories/experiences
  • Shame/stigma
